Uploading Photos to a Photo Report

Uploading photos is a key step in creating a photo report on the Photo-reports.online service. The service allows you to add images and PDF documents, automatically preparing them for further structuring into a photo report. This functionality is available both to registered users and guests (with some restrictions).

Photo Formats and Upload Methods

Supported image formats

You can upload files in the following formats:
  • JPEG / JPG
  • PNG
  • WEBP
HEIC / HEIF formats are currently not supported and must be converted before uploading.

Uploading images and PDF files

On the photo report creation page, two data addition options are available:
  • upload images as individual files;
  • upload a PDF document.
When uploading a PDF:
  1. the file is split into pages by the user's browser;
  2. each page is converted into an image;
  3. the images are sequentially uploaded to the photo report.
This allows you to use existing documents as a basis for the photo report.

Restrictions and Differences for Users

Guest capabilities

Guests can use the core functionality of the service without registration, including creating photo reports. Restrictions:
  • up to 100 photos per report;
  • watermark on images;
  • reports are not saved;
  • team collaboration is not available;
  • cannot use standard captions.

Capabilities for registered users

Registered users get extended capabilities:
  • up to 300 photos per report;
  • no watermarks;
  • reports and photos are saved;
  • use of standard captions;
  • team collaboration.
The photo limit can be increased upon request if needed.

Image Processing During Upload

Client-side processing

Most processing is done on the user's browser side. This reduces server load and speeds up the service. Limits on the number of photos are related to device performance: on low-powered computers, processing many images may slow down.

Optimization and compression of images

Automatic optimization is performed during upload:
  • images are converted to WEBP format;
  • compressed to a maximum size of 1024×1024 px;
  • quality factor around 0.7.
This quality ensures:
  • correct display in Word documents;
  • ability to print on color printers;
  • a balance between quality and file size.

Photo Upload Speed

Upload speed depends on:

  • user device performance;
  • number of photos;
  • file sizes;
  • internet connection speed.
On average:
  • 100 images of about 1 MB each upload in 25–40 seconds.
Increasing the number or size of files may significantly increase upload time.

Automatic Sorting and Captions

Generating captions

Captions for photos are generated automatically:
  • when uploading images – file names are used;
  • when uploading PDF – the file name and page number are used.
This simplifies further editing and structuring of the report.

Sorting images

Photos are automatically sorted:
  • by file name when uploading images;
  • by page order when uploading PDF.
The order can be changed manually if needed.

Error Handling During Upload

If an error occurs during upload:

  • the problematic file is removed from the queue;
  • the remaining images continue uploading;
  • a notification is shown to the user indicating the file that caused the error.
This prevents the entire upload process from stopping.

Recommendations for Uploading Photos

For stable operation, we recommend:

  • use images up to 1–2 MB in size;
  • upload photos in batches on low-powered devices;
  • convert unsupported formats beforehand;
  • check file names for convenient automatic sorting.
